Software Engineering
Build systems that trade $5bn. Every day.
Tackle low-latency trading systems, distributed data pipelines, and internal tooling that hold up under real market stress.
Why Top Engineers join us
We work on the hardest engineering challenges. While most companies build simple websites, we build trading systems, track latency in nanoseconds, and optimize down to the metal to process billions of events across multiple data centers.
Martin — VP of Engineering

The bar for new joiners is very high
Only a fraction of software engineers pass our interview process. Not because we set unrealistic expectations, but because our current engineers look for candidates operating at their own level.
Interviewers expect candidates who can:
Master low-latency and high-performance engineering.
Designs and develops trading algorithms, calculating fair prices and shaping our market-making strategies.
Bring proven excellence.
Academic achievements, math or physics depth, or top rankings in competitions and hackathons.
Show strong problem-solving ability.
First-principles thinking, debugging complex systems, handling ambiguity, and balancing speed vs. correctness.
Demonstrate deep systems knowledge.
Networking, concurrency, memory, and kernel tuning.
Scale
Experience with distributed, fault-tolerant systems or algorithmic trading infrastructures.
Your work matters
Every month, your curiosity and problem solving skills matter, because every little performance improvement translates directly to the profit and loss (PnL). It also impacts your and your team’s bonuses.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the engineering culture like at Wincent?
We value transparency, ownership, and integrity. We say things as they are: no fluff, BS, no politics. You’ll work with top engineers who care deeply about building great systems and helping each other grow.
How big is the engineering team?
Wincent has around 150 people in total, about 60 of them are engineers. Our teams are small, autonomous, and highly specialized, giving you freedom to make impactful decisions.
Do you have a lot of meetings?
No. We keep meetings minimal and focused. Engineers spend their time coding, designing, and solving problems, not sitting in status updates.
How is feedback handled?
Feedback is direct and transparent. It is provided immediately, with regular monthly feedback sessions and a major performance session every six months.
What programming languages do you use?
Our stack depends on the team. Common choices include Rust, C++, TypeScript, Python, and Node.js, with React for frontend tools. As a candidate, you don’t need to have working experience with Rust or C++ as long as you’re keen to learn it.
Is a background in finance or trading required?
Not at all. Most of our engineers come from top software companies, math or physics backgrounds, not finance. We value strong algorithmic thinking, system design, and problem-solving skills, not prior trading experience.
Do you support visas?
Yes. We support visa sponsorship and relocation for exceptional candidates. Our hiring process and relocation team handle the logistics to make your transition smooth.
How do you support families with kids?
We provide a family-friendly environment with unlimited vacation (within reasonable boundaries), flexible scheduling, and benefits like all-day office catering, mental health support, and parental leave. Bratislava also offers excellent safety and quality of life for families.
Can I work fully remotely?
We only ask for a 2-week onboarding and quarterly visits in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Most roles are office-first, as we value high collaboration and low latency in both trading and decision-making. While we prefer onsite collaboration (we are more than happy to provide relocation support if needed), remote work can be negotiated for senior engineers with strong track records.
Do I need to relocate to Bratislava, Slovakia?
A substantial part of our engineering team works from Bratislava, and we encourage engineers to relocate here to benefit from close collaboration, great cost of living, and an active engineering community. That said, we also have team members in other European locations.
What’s life like in Bratislava?
Bratislava offers low living costs, very low income tax compared to other Western countries, and one of the safest environments in Europe. The city’s location gives you access to Vienna, Budapest, and Prague within just a few hours driving.
Do you provide any relocation package?
Yes. We provide comprehensive relocation support including visa sponsorship, assistance with moving logistics, and help settling in Bratislava. For EU citizens, the package equals one month’s base salary, and for those outside the EU, it’s two months’ salary.
Do I get hardware?
Yes. We equip you with high-performance hardware suited for your role — whether you’re optimizing systems, building trading infrastructure, or developing internal tools. You’ll have what you need to work efficiently from day one.
Can I choose what team to join?
We match candidates with teams based on technical background, interests, and impact potential. During the interview process, we discuss available teams and find the best fit together. We also strive to tailor each position to the individual skills and expertise. Even if you join a specific team and we later discover together that your strengths might be a better fit elsewhere, we are very open to internal transfers.
How does compensation work?
We offer competitive, above-market compensation tailored to your expertise, seniority, and local residency. The typical base salary range is €80,000 – €150,000 per year, with the final offer reflecting each candidate’s individual experience and depth of technical skill. We can go even higher on base salary in specific cases.
In addition to the base salary, every six months, we celebrate impact. A performance bonus is tied directly to both individual excellence and the fund’s overall performance. When the team wins, you win too. In some exceptional cases, our engineers could get more than 50% of yearly total compensation in bonuses.
Is equity available?
Yes. You can choose to allocate a portion of your salary toward equity, and employees can also invest in our proprietary fund, which has built a strong track record since 2017. You share the company’s success: when the firm wins, so do you. The equity fund is being regularly reevaluated and has an upward trajectory.
Is there space to grow professionally?
Absolutely. We hire the top 0.1% and give them freedom to expand their scope fast. We encourage internal mobility and project ownership, not titles and bureaucracy.
How flexible are your working hours?
We have a high-trust culture. As long as you deliver and collaborate effectively, you can shape your schedule around your peak productivity times.
What’s the interview process like? How long is it?
Our process typically includes:
- Introductory call with a recruiter
- Take-home algorithmic challenge (it usually takes 2-3 hours)
- Technical interviews (coding, system design, or DevOps topics)
- Soft skills interview
The entire process is online and efficient, typically completed within three-four weeks.
More details about the interview process are provided for each position.
Do the engineering teams have an on-call service?
Engineers teams provide a 24/7 on-call service. Oncall duty is one week long, Engineers switch every week. The compensation for the 7-day week of on-call service is extra 5% of the base (monthly cash) salary.
How stable is Wincent considering the volatile crypto market? Are you self-sufficient?
Yes. Wincent generates returns when the market is active; our profitability is not directly tied to the appreciation (or depreciation) of any one particular crypto asset. We have access to an $800 million fund, giving us long-term stability and complete independence from market hype.
If I start, will I get a buddy or mentor?
Yes. Every new engineer has a dedicated onboarding buddy and support from their Team Lead. You’ll also have your entire team to help you ramp up quickly, share context, and make your first weeks smooth and productive.
